Kindness is giving from your overflow,
But not from your essence,
Because that would be unkind to yourself.

Many of us have been brought up to think of spirituality as something that happens in a sacred building, requires others who worship like you do, and that it requires ceremony and rules and rituals.

Most of us have been taught that things, events or people are either good or bad, right or wrong, with us or against us, acceptable or unacceptable. We have to choose one side of the coin or the other.
We can’t have both.

I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the wisdom and guidance you have offered me over the years, for holding true North for me this whole life.
As I think about you, I realize that there are a lot of things I don’t know about you.
And there are a lot of things I do know about you.

You are no less important than anyone else. You are certainly no good to anyone burnt out! Sometimes the loving thing is to say no. The initial response from people on the ground has been immediate and appropriate and practical and very much filled an immediate and obvious need.
But once the ashes settle somewhat and the initial shock wears off there is the longer-term aftermath to consider. And/or if you live in an unaffected area and you have a kind and compassionate nature, the question arises:

Whatever happened to Leisure?
Leisure is when you can choose to rest, to play, to walk in nature, to be creative, to have a bath, to read a book, to think about something in depth, to spend time with someone you love, in short, whatever nourishes and nurtures you, in body, soul, mind and/or spirit. The things you want to do because they give you pleasure, make you feel good. The things that make you feel fulfilled, the things that make you uniquely you, the gift you have to offer the world. The things that allow you to feel like a human being rather than a human doing.

We are not supposed to save the world all on our own – just our little corner of it.
And if we all do that, there will be ripple effects in our community and ultimately on the planet. So just do your bit, the bit that really gets you fired up, and inspire others to do the same!
